"The Weaving of the Ancient Wandering Shepherds" Nomadic Weaving Lab
Teacher Name: Maria Giovanna Varagona
The Loom is a tool through which man has been able to express his inner world, so as to relate to himself and to each other. The frame has become increasingly complex in direct proportion to the development of man's cognitive abilities and his adaptation to different environmental situations. Getting to know the Frame is interesting to discover that with a few tools (ORDER -TRAMA -SUBBIO) it has been a symbol of a path that man has travelled over the millennia, leaving deep traces within human memory.
We who make use of the Loom for professional, creative and cultural purposes know that each gesture is the result of an ancient experience.
Here, then, is the proposal of a very simple device, for millennia used by nomadic shepherds to weave cloth and carpets while grazing their flocks and therefore possible to use in any place without difficulty and also to build independently once the practice of use has been learned. The loom that will be used is composed of warp threads and wooden sticks. (Hence "Nomadic," it favored transportation in the community's various movements.)
