The group's trademark is the crystal-clear harmonies sung by the powerful Leading Ladies, who bring the rich sounds of ancient songs back to life with their unmistakable style. Värttinä, born out of a musical project dedicated to children, achieved international success in the 1990s after the release of the album “Oi Dai”, and since then they have toured all over the world, becoming one of the most creative ensembles in the contemporary world music arena, as evidenced in 2012 by the prestigious WOMEX Artist Award, awarded for the first time to a Nordic group.
