Iron gall ink
Teacher Name: Francesca Ghergo
This course will involve the creation of iron gall ink using the ancient technique of firing oak galls. A historical introduction to manuscripts and inks will be given in the form of a small lecture debate. The creation of the ink will then proceed through all the steps that will allow the pigment to form. Two inkwells will then be made from goose feathers and elder sticks and finally writing will be done on parchment. All materials are provided by the Association and each participant will take home his or her made writing kit.
